The Jodhpur Polo Trunk
In the heart of Jaipur, dwells a dream born from the creative instincts of brothers Paritosh and Priyank Mehta. Driven by their fascination for local crafts and culture, they embarked on an evolutionary journey and interpreted one-of-a-kind trunks to treasure collectibles, passions, tradition, memories.
Trunks Company was a start-up luxury brand that competed with renowned luxury labels such as Louis Vuitton and Goyard to name a few. These iconic brands defined the space and invested heavily in traditional media. As a result, they were better known to market influencers and consumers. After multiple meetings with Paritosh and Priyank, the strategy devised encompassed creative communication and strategic partnerships that would engage and influence key decision-makers in India and internationally.
India is the birthplace of modern polo. The modern game of polo is derived from Manipur, where the game was known as ‘Sagol Kangjei’, ‘Kanjai-bazee’, or ‘Pulu’. Miniature paintings in the Mehrangarh Museum reveal that the Rathores first played polo with the Mughals but it did not become a passion with them till much later, in the Nineteenth Century. The blood-rushing charges, the all-or-nothing riding-off, the frantic change of horses… it was all there and only four years later the Jodhpur Team brought home its first trophy, The Rajputana Challenge Cup of 1893. By the turn of the century, Jodhpur had become an important polo centre, and it would remain so till 1949; when the city boasted no less than six polo grounds; rivalling Calcutta, the oldest polo club in the world, by the sheer number of players.
The X & Zero team thus began conversations with HH Maharaja Gaj Singh’s team about a collaboration with the Jodhpur Polo, thereby birthing the ‘Polo Trunk‘ and a bespoke watch trunk to house his enviable collection of timepieces. X & Zero pitched an exclusive in-person preview of the trunk-in-making to Forbes magazine, leading to five-page editorial coverage.
