Celebrating 100 Years of Art Deco: A Walk-Through Mumbai’s Timeless Art Deco Precinct

For Walkitecture in collaboration with Architectural Digest India, we curated a special walk to commemorate a century of Art Deco in Mumbai—a style that has gracefully adorned the city’s skyline and enriched its cultural tapestry.

As part of this collaboration, Architectural Digest India invited 50 of their guests to join an exclusive architectural walk through the city’s historic Art Deco district.

Architect & Restorer Nikhil Mahashur, the founder of Walkitecture and Nikhil Mahashur & Associates along with Photographer Kuber Shah, led us through this architectural odyssey, shedding light on the intricate details that define Art Deco—from curved facades to nautical motifs.

Our journey began at the iconic Eros Cinema, a testament to Mumbai’s Art Deco legacy. Designed in the Streamline Moderne style, Eros Cinema stands as a beacon of the city’s architectural evolution. From there, we meandered through the elegant facades surrounding Oval Maidan, each building whispering tales of a bygone era.

We were proud to shape and share this moment, where heritage met storytelling, and design spoke louder than words.
